And then... Mommy Cried

When I was a child, one of my all time favorite movies was The Land Before Time. I had the VHS tape, cups, action figures, all of it. But I never could make it through the movie without bawling my eyes out time after time.

Camden, our oldest has taken a fondness to dinosaurs in the past couple months through this new Nick Jr. show called Dino Dan. Christmas brought dinosaur action figures, a robot T-Rex... all the bells and whistles.

Today Camden decided to look through the DVD shelf, and when he came across the DVD of The Land Before Time, he wanted to watch it, and I knew it was going to be an emotional pregnancy roller coaster for me. Not only because the movie is horribly sad to begin with, but because my life has come full circle. I watched this movie as a child, and now my own 3 year old was insisting we watched the same movie I loved so much. As I put it on he sat down and paid close attention and asked a million questions. He really was getting it. Now all he wants to do is watch the movie I had on repeat as a kid.

It really puts life into perspective!

What got me was when Camden asked me ... "Mommy... what just happened to his Mommy?" and "Where is his Daddy?" Oh, and then at the end... "Why didn't Little Foot's mommy come back?"

I hate this age with the questions sometimes!

Awwww! I remember watching that over and over as a kid. I am so scared to turn it on for my son, though. I once put it on when he was only 2 1/2 and the scary scenes were kind of traumatic and it was hard to explain to him what was going on. He's older now but I still haven't braved that movie yet. It is very sad.
You are very brave to take on those tough questions with him!

Happy SITS Day! Posting down here, because while I didn't watch it as a child, but somehow we ended up with copies of almost every one (did you know there are like 8!) on VHS and The Girl Child went through a phase where we watched them almost daily for months!

Oh and I've always wanted to be a Doula. I had such a wonderful birth experiences with a midwife (in a hospital setting) that I'd love to help others have the same. I looked into it seriously, but quickly realized that it's not a great career choice for a single mom with no other adult in the house! Maybe some day.

It *is* a sad movie! There have been a few things I've done with my kids that I did as a little girl that made me feel...well, not sad, not nostalgic, not old, but strange, almost like life is going too fast.

Happy SITS Day!

I saw this as a teen and bawled me eyes out. My friend's dad laughed at me.

Did you son cry?

Aw, that's very sweet. I had a similar feeling when over the summer E.T. happened to be on TV and our son was absolutely mesmerized by it. I thought it was pretty amazing that a movie that was over 20 years old could still entertain an entirely new generation.
Happy SITS day!

At this exact moment, my daughter is watching movie #5. We have them all. And all the cartoons. The only one I really don't like to watch is the first one because it's so sad. The rest of them aren't fantastic, but at least they're fun. I just heard about that PBS dino show last night and we're going to give it a looksee - my daughter is dino obsessed!!

That's so beautiful! I can't wait to watch Little Mermaid with my girls and other fun classics that I enjoyed. But right now they have the attention span of a gnat!
